Community Shared Agriculture coming to a parking lot near YOU

We are so excited to announce that the Hillhurst Sunnyside Community Centre will be the drop off / pick up location for Eagle Creek Farms CSA this season! Pick ups will be Thursdays during the summer.  I believe they will be able to inform everyone what to expect that week a bit in advance, so you can know what to purchase at the Farmers’ Market the day before.

What is a CSA, you ask?  According to Wikipedia, a “CSA consists of a community of individuals who pledge support to a farm operation where the growers and consumers share the risks and benefits of food production. CSAs usually consist of a system of weekly delivery or pick-up of vegetables and fruit in a vegetable box scheme, sometimes including dairy products and meat.”

CSAs took root in Canada around 1989, and while they thrive in places like Ontario, there are ironically few here in agriculture rich Alberta. If you want to find out more about CSAs, there are tons of online resources to be had. I stumbled across this fabulous quote via this website:

I’m all lost in the supermarket

I can no longer shop happily
