Just wanted to draw your attention to a great post over at our mother Web site on the Fallen Fruit Rescue Project. A group in town provides volunteers who come and harvest your fruit tree so that you get one third of the harvested fruit, the volunteers get one third, and the last third goes to the Food Bank or other local group feeding the hungry. Last year I felt like I did pretty good with my small apple tree (the apples were small, not the tree) – we made three large batches of jelly, but we still had so much fruit left over that just ended up all over the backyard, turning into mucky little squish bombs. We will definitely be contacting this group to help us out come September.
