The HSCA Farmers Market first started in 1994 with only 4 vendors. Since then, it has grown tremendously with the most vendors ever being 40!! The market runs rain or shine, hail or snow every week. To keep things interesting, the special events and variety of vendors changed each year, so as to keep things fresh and new.
16 years later, we are still evolving and trying to keep things new and interesting. As this is my first experience with organizing a Farmers Market, I find it very useful to go back and look at the history of the Farmers Market. I think it’s important to find out from the Hillhurst/Sunnyside community what was good about past farmers markets, and what they’d like to see done differently. The Farmers Market training that Maria and I attended last week strongly promoted suggestion boxes and Vendor and Consumer surveys , and luckily we have been doing those over the years to help us tweak the market each year.
HSCA Farmers Market has gained loyal customers over the past 16 years, and I look forward to meeting and talking to them all this year.
